Located directly off of the lobby is the Peter McBean Gallery, a temporary exhibition space.

Created during the Museum's expansion in 2000 as the primary venue for special exhibitions, this gallery is named in memory of Peter McBean, a former Museum trustee who served on the Board from 1972 to 1997. It has featured many of the Museum's major special exhibitions since its opening, with Betting on America currently on display. The McBean Gallery also features the John A. Nerud Collection display case, the semi-permanent Hall of Fame Heroes exhibition and its accompanying interactive exhibit, and the seasonal exhibition, Paintings from the Charles H. Thieriot Collection.
