THE ART OF THE RACE

Age: Grades 6-12
About: Get up close and personal with the museum’s extensive collection of equine painting and sculpture, spanning over three centuries. Students will see how art developed from the early 18th century into today through engaging activities and analysis.

A RIDE THROUGH TIME

Age: Grades 6-12
About: Experience the vibrant history of horse racing in America over a 400-year journey from humble beginnings to national pastime. Students will also get the chance to go behind the scenes in our archives to see how museums preserve history through artifacts.

UNDER THE HOOF

Age: Grades 6-12
About: Get the inside scoop on what makes a horse tick in this exclusive tour, where students will learn all about equine science, anatomy, and genetics. Examine a real horse skeleton and see how different genes can produce different results.

HORSING AROUND

Age: Grades 1-5
About: Aimed toward younger students, this field trip includes a wide variety of interactive and creative stations throughout the museum for kids to try. Color your own jockey silks, examine real horseshoes, and even try riding a horse in this fun-filled adventure.

HIGHLIGHTS TOUR

Age: Grades 6-12
About: A little bit of everything! Our standard museum tour will show you all the highlights we have to offer, from our historic trophies to our legendary artifacts. Students will have the chance to explore our galleries and enjoy our interactive displays.

All field trips include a special screening of our signature film, What It Takes: Journey to the Hall of Fame, and come with unique in-class worksheets courtesy of the Museum. If you would like to book a tour or would like to know more about our New York State learning standards, contact mreichel@racingmuseum.net or call (518) 584-0400 and ask for extension 118. We understand that all schools are different, and we are happy to accommodate your learning needs.

NOTE: Field trips must be booked at least 14 days before the preferred date. A final headcount for the field trip must be sent to the museum at least seven days before the event. Any changes to the number of attendees during this seven-day period must be approved by the Museum. The Museum is not responsible for any no-shows who fail to appear for their field trip.
