Travers Stakes preview panel Aug. 23

Racing analysts Tom Amello and Michael Veitch will participate on the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame’s Travers Stakes preview panel on Wednesday, Aug. 23 at 11 a.m. The event is open to the public and included with a paid Museum admission.

Amello and Veitch will analyze the upcoming Travers Stakes field — which is expected to include Kentucky Derby winner Always Dreaming, Preakness winner Cloud Computing and Belmont winner Tapwrit — and answer audience questions about the race and general inquiries about the sport and handicapping in the 60-minute seminar.

Amello has produced the popular “Trackfacts” selection sheet at Saratoga Race Course since 1989. He also served as an on-air host at Capital OTB-TV for more than 20 years. Amello developed a TV version of “Trackfacts” for Capital OTB-TV and
co-hosted a second program for the network, “Trackfacts Live,” that was an audience-driven program.

Veitch has been covering thoroughbred racing for The Saratogian and The Pink Sheet since 1979 and has authored two books on Saratoga Racing: “Foundations of Fame” and “Summit of Champions.” He has written for numerous other publications, including Daily Racing Form, and is also a former Capital OTB-TV host.

The 148th running of the Travers is Saturday, Aug. 26 at Saratoga Race Course. The race is a Grade 1 with a $1.25 million purse. Along with the three Triple Crown race winners, the field is likely to include Jim Dandy winner Good Samaritan and Haskell winner Girvin, as well as McCraken, Gunnevera and Irap, among others. The Travers Stakes post positions will be drawn Tuesday night.
