National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame names Cate M. Johnson director of development

Cate M. Johnson has been named director of development at the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame. Johnson, currently the office manager for the Kiaran McLaughlin Racing Stable, begins her new position at the Museum on March 31.

Johnson, who has been with the McLaughlin Racing Stable (Garden City/Saratoga Springs, N.Y) since 2008, brings a wealth of management, promotion and special event experience in the thoroughbred racing industry to the Museum. For the McLaughlin Racing Stable, Johnson has served as a liaison to horse owners, coordinated employee benefits and programs, managed relationships with racetracks, vendors and legal counsel, supervised stable logistics and handled website and accounting duties, among various other responsibilities.

“We’re really looking forward to Cate joining the team here at the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame,” said Chris Dragone, the Museum’s director. “She has a proven track record in the sport and brings essential industry knowledge and experience. We believe she will be a tremendous asset to the Museum.”

Johnson will lead the Museum’s development and sponsorship initiatives and assume a prominent role in special events, marketing and outreach.

Prior to working for the McLaughlin Racing Stable, Johnson spent eight years as manager of promotions and special events for Ed Lewi Associates, Inc. (Clifton Park, N.Y.), where she was involved in all aspects of client marketing, event promotions and sponsorship development and fulfillment. Johnson played a key role in designing marketing strategies, promotional budgets and plans, as well as the execution of promotions at Saratoga Race Course and Belmont Park, including Hats Off to Saratoga, Open House, NFL Alumni Day, Travers Festival, Belmont Park Fall Festival and the 2005 Breeders’ Cup at Belmont.
