National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame announces summer drop-in programs for children and families

The National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame will present six summer drop-in programs for children and families during the Saratoga Race Course meeting. Each program is scheduled for a Monday from 10 a.m. to noon. The programs are recommended for children ages 3 through 8 and are included with paid Museum admission.

Monday, July 24 — Children’s Program: “Get Ready for the Races and Make Your Own Jockey:” As the Saratoga meet begins, learn fun facts about the role of jockeys and design one using plastic eggs. Recommended for children ages 3 through 8. Time: 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Cost: Free with paid admission.

 

 

Monday, July 31 — Children’s Program: “Make Your Own Racehorse Flip Book:” Create your own racing-themed flip book from a series of thoroughbred racing images. Recommended for children ages 3 through 8. Time: 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Cost: Free with paid admission.

 

 

Monday, August 7 — Children’s Program: “Celebrate the Hall of Fame Inductions by Designing Your Own Silks:” Learn about the 2017 Hall of Fame inductees, try on jockey silks then design and take home your own. Recommended for children ages 3 through 8. Time: 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Cost: Free with paid admission.

 

 

Monday, August 14 — Children’s Program: “Horse-Themed Bingo/Trivia Game:” Join us to play some fun racing-themed games. Recommended for children ages 3 through 8. Time: 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Cost: Free with paid admission.

 

 

Monday, August 21 — Children’s Program: “Decorate a Trophy for the Travers Stakes:” Prepare for Saratoga’s oldest race by viewing Travers Stakes trophies at the Museum then decorate a smaller model of your own. Recommended for children ages 3 through 8. Time: 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Cost: Free with paid admission.

 

 

Monday, August 28 — Children’s Program: “Racehorse Thaumatrope:” Watch a simple toy combine two images into one with optical illusion and design one to watch repeatedly. Recommended for children ages 3 through 8. Time: 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Cost: Free with paid admission.
