Ron Turcotte rode in the 1960's and 70's and brought home winners 14.9% of the time. He began his racing career in Canada and rode his first winner in 1962. Turcotte rode many of the best horses of his day but is best known as the regular rider of Meadow Stable's 2-year-old champion Riva Ridge and Triple Crown winner Secretariat. While Secretariat may have been his best horse, Turcotte has said that Riva Ridge was his favorite.

They won the Belmont by 31 lengths and set an American record at 2:24. Ron Turcotte's racing career ended in 1978 when he was paralyzed due to an accident at Belmont Park. Turcotte was the nation's leading stakes-winning jockey 1972-73. He received the George Woolf Memorial Jockey Award and was inducted in the Hall of Fame in 1979.
