Secretariat joins Colin, Man o' War, and Citation as one of the best horses
of
the twentieth century. Voted Horse of the Year at 2 and at 3, Secretariat
was
the first horse in 25 years to win the Triple Crown series.
Under jockey Ron Turcotte, at 2 Secretariat set track records in the
Sanford,
Hopeful, Futurity, Laurel Futurity, and Garden State Stakes.

At 3 Secretariat won the Bay Shore and Gotham before winning the Triple
Crown
and setting track records in all three classics. In the Kentucky Derby he
came from last place to win; he went from last to first on the first turn
of
the Preakness; and then he won the Belmont by 31 lengths.
In the Marlboro Cup Secretariat set a world record and defeated four older
champions who were carrying less weight. He also won the Man o'War and
the
Canadian International before being named Turf Champion.
Secretariat sired 10% stakes winners, most notably Lady's Secret. In 1992
he
was the leading broodmare sire.
Secretariat was inducted in the Hall of Fame in 1974.
