Roseben was known for his incredible sprint and weight-carrying abilities. In fact, he was nicknamed The Big Train on account of his skill in carrying high weights.

In 86 races Roseben gave weight to all his rivals and won 14 races carrying 140 or more pounds. As a sprinter he set or equaled six track records at 6, 7, and 7 1/2 furlongs.

At 4 Roseben won the Toboggan and the Manhattan Handicaps. In the latter race he won by five lengths and carried 147 pounds. He conceded 42 pounds to the second horse and set an American record of 1:11 3/5 for six furlongs in this race.

As a 5-year-old Roseben won a second Manhattan, as well as the Carter and Bay View Handicaps.

Roseben was inducted in the Hall of Fame in 1956.
