Alysheba

Bay colt foaled in 1984. by Alydar-Bel Sheba, by Lt. Stevens

Breeder: Preston Madden
Owner: Dorothy and Pamela Scharbauer
Trainer: Jack Van Berg

RACE RECORD
YEAR AGESTARTS 1ST2ND 3RDEARNED
19862 71 41$359,486
19873 103 31$2,511,156
19884 97 10$3,808,600
TOTALS: 2611 82$6,679,242

The Scharbauers purchased Alysheba for half a million dollars, but with career earnings in excess of 6 million dollars, his price seems reasonable. He broke his maiden in a 1 1/16 mile race at Turfway Park, which he won by 8 lengths, leading all the way.

At 3, Alysheba was disqualified and placed third in the Blue Grass Stakes, but he came back to post an upset victory in the Kentucky Derby, to win the Preakness and the Super Derby, and to finish fourth in the Belmont Stakes.

Alysheba's 4th year began with victories in the Strub Stakes, Santa Anita and San Bernardino Handicaps. He then came east to win the Philip H. Iselin, Woodward and Meadowlands Cup. Alysheba's career ended with a half-length victory in the Breeder's Cup Classic and record-setting earnings for his final season.

Alysheba was inducted in the Hall of Fame in 1993.
