Go for Wand's brief but impressive career demonstrated that she was one of the best fillies of her generation. At 2 she placed in the Frizette and then defeated the best of her class in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies. She was named champion 2-year-old filly of 1989.
At 3 Go for Wand began the season at Keeneland where she won the Beaumont by 8 1/2 lengths and the Ashland by five before being upset in the Kentucky Oaks. Back in New York she won the Mother Goose, Test, Alabama, Maskette, and Beldame.
Go for Wand's final race was the Breeders' Cup Distaff. Older champion Bayakoa was battling Go for Wand for the lead when she broke down. Go for Wand's injury was fatal. Later in the year she won a second Eclipse Award as champion 3-year-old filly of 1990.
Go for Wand was inducted in the Hall of Fame in 1996.
