Zaccio was the steeplechase champion for three years in a row, 1980-82. Among his other feats were winning the Colonial Cup in 1981-82 and breaking the earnings record set 22 years earlier by Neji---a feat Zaccio accomplished in four years, compared to Neji's eight.

At 4 Zaccio won the New York Turf Writers Cup, Lovely Night, Pillar, Midsummer, Indian River, and Carolina Cup Steeplechases. At 5 Zaccio won the Colonial Cup International, the American Grand National, and the Noel Laing Steeplechase.

In his most financially successful season, Zaccio repeated his victories in the Colonial Cup and the New York Turf Writers Cup and added the Temple Gwathmey.

Zaccio was inducted in the Hall of Fame in 1990.
