In the twenty-one starts of her career, Princess Rooney finished out of the money on only one occasion. In addition to her fine race record she was the first Breeders' Cup winner elected to the Hall of Fame.
Princess Rooney's most important early victories were in the Frizette and the Gardenia Stakes at 2 and the Kentucky Oaks and the Ashland Stakes at 3. In her best season, at 4, Princess Rooney won the Vanity and the Chula Vista Handicaps, as well as the Spinster Stakes. In her final race she won the inaugural Breeders' Cup Distaff by seven lengths. She was also voted Champion Handicap Female for 1984.
In 1985 Princess Rooney was sold for $5.5 million, the third-highest price ever paid for a broodmare at that time.
Princess Rooney was inducted in the Hall of Fame in 1991.
